Our Story

Festival of India appeared on the North American scene in 1979, yet the presentation of FOI is timeless culture and knowledge of eternal Vedic wisdom. “Veda” means knowledge; thus, it is the primary function of Festival of India presentations is to present to the public the precious eastern wisdom of yoga, vegetarian diet, science of reincarnation, and spiritual science.

Over one hundred attractively designed panel displays depict the little-known esoteric topics such as original yoga theory, reincarnation, vegetarianism, ancient science, and Vedic histories. A veritable feast for the eyes awaits the viewer of the gallery of illustrative art work, sculpture, and photographic reproductions that complete Festival of India's illuminating presentation.

Festival of India musicians and actors provide traditional and classical Indian entertainment including classical Indian dances, kirtans and bhajans with sitar, saroj, tamboura, tablas, mridanga, harmonium and kartals, as well as entertaining theatre based on the great ancient histories of India like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

Beyond the visual presentations of twenty-seven brightly colored tents, a stage with state-of-the-art sound system, dozens of dynamic displays, and attractive banners, Festival of India's mani stage hosts internationally renowned traditional and contemporary musicians, dancers, and dramatic artists, not to mention scholarly lecturers and dignitaries in the fields of enlightened spirituality. It is extraordinary that all the displays and everything else are transported in one forty-eight-foot, eighteen-wheel tractor-trailer.

Festival of India is subsidized by grants and contributions from loyal supporters and is usually organized locally in each of the individual areas in which Festival of India serves. In fact, many well- known universities have funded Festival of India's campus events.
