Cow Protection "Go Seva"
Serving Mother Cow, Serving Dharma
In the Vedic tradition, the cow is revered as Go Mata, the universal mother, for she selflessly nourishes all of humanity. Her milk sustains our bodies, her ghee fuels our sacred yajnas, and her presence brings peace to the heart. To protect the cow is not only an act of compassion — it is a spiritual duty (dharma), deeply rooted in the teachings of Lord Krishna and the instructions of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

At Prabhupada Village, we follow this sacred path by offering refuge, respect, and unconditional love to cows. Our cow protection program (go raksha) provides a safe haven where cows live freely, without fear of exploitation, harm, or slaughter. They are cared for not because of what they produce, but simply because of who they are — gentle souls, worthy of reverence and devotion.
Why Cow Protection Matters
-
Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, spent His childhood herding and playing with cows in Vrindavan. One of His names is Gopal, "protector of the cows."
-
Srila Prabhupada said:
“You cannot be Krishna conscious without protecting cows.” -
The cow provides the five sacred gifts (pancha-gavya): milk, yogurt, ghee, dung, and urine — all essential in Vedic rituals, Ayurvedic healing, and sattvic living.
-
A society that protects its cows develops qualities of kindness, humility, and spiritual clarity.
-
Cow protection is a pillar of simple living, high thinking — the very essence of Krishna-centered life.
Life at Our Goshala
Our cows are not commodities — they are family. Each one has a name, a personality, a history. Some were rescued, others born here. They live in spacious fields, graze freely, receive Ayurvedic care, and are loved by devotees, volunteers, and visitors alike.
We do not slaughter our cows when they become old or stop giving milk. They are honored throughout their life and even after, with devotional rites and remembrance.
Every day includes:
-
Morning seva: feeding, brushing, gentle chanting
-
Natural living: no artificial insemination, no cruelty
-
Interaction: families and children visiting, learning, serving
-
Celebration: festivals like Gopashtami, Govardhan Puja, and Janmashtami with cow-centered kirtans and pujas

Srila Prabhupada on Cow Protection
“Cows are very important for the human society; therefore Krishna is often called Govinda, the one who gives pleasure to the cows.
Protecting cows is the duty of every civilized human being.”
“You will see — if you protect the cow, nature will be satisfied, and in turn, God will be satisfied.”
